Mr. Sulu

Get me!

Born in San Francisco in the year 2237 and named after the protagonist of the novel Tale of Genji, his family moved around a bit throughout the early years of his life to locales such as the Federation Colonies and the planet Hafjian, where the gravity is so strong it was necessary for Sulu to wear an exoskeleton in order to survive.  After a doctor informed him that this would lead to health problems down the line, his family returned to a Federation Colony in the city of Ishikawa on the planet Ganjitsu up until his enrollment in the Starfleet Academy.

After his graduation he was assigned as a helmsman on the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) working under Captain James Tiberius Kirk (who joined the MIMOBOT ranks back in November).  He served loyally over a number of years on the Enterprise’s quest to boldly go where no man has gone before until 2269 when he felt stagnant and in need of a challenge.  Over the next couple of years Sulu soared up through the ranks until he was made Captain of the USS Excelsior which is where we find him in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

The Sulu in the original Gene Roddenberry series and the subsequent movies was played by George Takei who in recent years has become one of the most popular people on the internet especially in Sci-Fi and LGBT communities.  Takei’s portrayal of Sulu was considered very groundbreaking for the time.  Since World War II, all characters of Asian descent had been portrayed as villains and George Takei broke the mold in a very powerful way.  Not that it was his first time facing oppression for his ethnicity.  In 1942 he and his family lived in horse stables until being sent to an internment camp in Rohwer, Arkansas.  The years of facing adversity and oppression helped him mold the character of Sulu and are the driving force behind his work as a human rights advocate and Japanese-American relations activist.

In the 2009 introduction of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek universe Sulu is played by John Cho who most people know as Harold of the “and Kumar” persuasion and John from American Pie.  He reprises the role in the latest movie Star Trek: Into Darkness, in which he has an even a bigger role than in the previous film.

We’ve spoken before about how iconic the characters of Star Trek are and how the fans are part of what makes the series so magical.  Fans tend to pick and choose which series is their favorite but no matter what your favorite Star Trek is it is impossible to not recognize the important role that Sulu has played in all of his incarnations.  He is a beloved character and we here at Mimoco are proud to welcome him aboard.

Mr. Sulu Mimory

Available in up to 128GB and with USB 3.0 capabilities, Sulu MIMOBOT also comes preloaded with bonus Mimory® and the MimoDesk® personalization suite of wallpapers, icons and avatars. It also comes equipped with MimoByte® sound software powered with an offering of iconic Star Trek sounds and Sulu character dialogue that plays each time Sulu MIMOBOT is inserted or ejected from one’s computer.

R2A6 – The Luckiest Charm You Don’t Have Yet is Available for Star Wars Day http://blog.mimoco.com/r2a6-the-luckiest-charm-you-dont-have-yet-is-available-for-star-wars-day/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=r2a6-the-luckiest-charm-you-dont-have-yet-is-available-for-star-wars-day http://blog.mimoco.com/r2a6-the-luckiest-charm-you-dont-have-yet-is-available-for-star-wars-day/#comments Fri, 03 May 2013 21:00:23 +0000 jessica http://blog.mimoco.com/?p=6418 R2-A6_blog_640x290

May the 4th be with you!  No, I’m not typing with a lisp, this is a very important day.  This is the one day of the year-with the exception of conventions, the Star Wars weekends at Disney world, free comic book day, etc etc etc-that you are not only allowed, but encouraged, to celebrate Star Wars in all of its fantastic glory.

Last year we released a limited run (only 504 units were made) variant of our classic Darth Maul MIMOBOT.  This time with a hood!  We were so excited that we broke out our finest bottle of blue milk and had a party in the office.

This year we’re celebrating by releasing a limited-edition MIMOBOT version of R2-A6.  Have you ever had a lucky charm?  Maybe a rabbit’s foot?  A silver dollar your grandfather gave you?  How about an R2 unit?  If you answered yes to that last question then you’re either the world’s greatest Star Wars collector or you’re Ric Olie.  Ric Olie was the commander of the Naboo Royal Space Fighter Corps who spent most of his time flying the Royal Starship which is a pretty lucky gig. Not only that, but R2-A6 joined him in the Naboo Crisis (Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace) and helped in the defeat of the Trade Federation.  So don’t be so quick to knock superstitions unless you want a pissed off green R2 unit whistling and beeping your ear off.  We’ll be raffling off a 32GB R2-A6 MIMOBOT at the Super 7 Store’s May the 4th celebration.

Help me

There are plenty of other fun Star Wars things going on all over the world for all the fans who have had the franchise in their hearts for most of their lives, but there’s one event specifically for the people who have never even seen a Star War.  Change.org in association with Lucasfilm and Mashable.com are hosting a screening of A New Hope in San Francisco strictly for Star Wars virgins.  Lucasfilm’s brand communications manager Pablo Hidalgo will be there to answer the boundless questions that are sure to come from the crowd. Mimoco also provide a bunch of MIMOBOT drives to help the newbies retain those memories.  It’s hard to imagine that there are people who don’t know this movie practically word for word but they do exist.  Help them Change.org.  You’re their only hope.

 3UP_R2A6_Photo_watermark

Get me!

R2-A6 is known as a good-luck charm to the Royal Naboo Security Forces and now, in MIMOBOT form and function, can be a positive omen for your data storage. The droid’s green and white color scheme is derivative in design and function of fellow mechanically-versed droid, R2-D2. Just as a proper astromech droid would be expected to perform, R2-A6 MIMOBOT allows documents, music, photos, and data to be shared, transported, and collected for its master. Just don’t expect it to repair a starfighter malfunction in our earthbound orbit!

R2-A6, an astromech droid in the same family as R2-D2, is translated in the MIMOBOT’s stylistically illustrated flash drive form. Available in up to 128GB and USB 3.0 capabilities, the drive comes in a run of 1,000 limited edition hand-numbered units. And his Popaganda machine doesn’t skip a cultural beat, either. Ever since the 80′s, Ron’s been creating satirical, stunning pieces that force our corporation-dominated society to take a long hard look at themselves, and hopefully inciting cultural progress. In a similar vein as other eye-openers like Banksy, old-school Shepard Fairey, and Swoon, ”culture jamming” can thank Ron English for its notoriety.

Known for re-imagining corporate-day icons, English has tackled the identities of Mickey Mouse and Ronald McDonald in his charge to warn, provoke and arm the public with a critical mind. Recently with MC Supersized (his response to urbanization of McDonald’s ad campaigns) and Abraham Obama, his mixture of high and low cultural touchstones have been expressed in many mediums ranging from street art, to high art, to one of his all-time favorite media: toys.  Popaganda can be perused and/or purchased at his shows, conventions, and his website www.popaganda.com.

ronenglish_still

mimoZine was able to steal a few moments with the man at NYCC 2012 to find out what drives his creative process; specifically for Crucial Fiction solo show he was ramping up for at the time. One force? His memories, of course! ”I felt like I was stealing candy from my inner-child,” said English.

As a pop art enthusiast, it was so awesome to see what new pieces he had available at the Toy Tokyo booth, and even more exciting to get this insight into Ron’s memories. In the comments section, let us know if there are any other artists you would like us to profile and, if we were to do a Ron English MIMOBOT, which piece would you like to see us use? In the meantime, you can check out our current selection of Pop Art inspired collaborations here.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Not only is Ron a pillar in the charge for cultural progression, the guy is super smart, an absolute sweetheart and pleasure to talk to. Unbelievably personable and so cool.  Please universe, show me the 20-something-year-old version of Mr. English, so I know chivalry is not dead. And so I can have a crush on a human boy.

Mimoco Goes Ugly for Spring: Introducing Big Toe (Nail Clippers NOT included) http://blog.mimoco.com/mimoco-goes-ugly-for-spring-introducing-big-toe-nail-clippers-not-included/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=mimoco-goes-ugly-for-spring-introducing-big-toe-nail-clippers-not-included http://blog.mimoco.com/mimoco-goes-ugly-for-spring-introducing-big-toe-nail-clippers-not-included/#comments Mon, 15 Apr 2013 12:30:00 +0000 mimoco http://blog.mimoco.com/?p=6312

Let’s face it: after a few months, cute can get tiring. Same with heroic, handsome and beautiful. At Mimoco, we decided it’s just about time to get ugly again (since it’s been a minute since we released the first wave of UGLYDOLL x MIMOBOT at New York ComicCon), and so we have brought an entirely new UGLYDOLL character to MIMOBOT-life: Big Toe.

Big Toe holds up to 128GB of Ugly knowledge, so your data will be all wrapped up in ugly cuteness! That’s not even all, because on board the little ugly there are some amazing digital treats to be had, including UGLYDOLL wallpapers, avatars and more! It’s also available in our super fast USB 3.0. WORD.

Anyone versed in our universe (or the Uglyverse) knows the fairy-tale of the Ugly Empire. However, for you ugly-n00bs, let us catch you up to modern-day:

UGLYDOLL was born with a love letter. David Horvath wrote (snail-mail is what really gets the ladies) to his soon-to-be wife Sun-Min Kim just after she had to move home to Korea when her student Visa expired. The hand-written note featured  a cartoon – a sketch of his soon-to-be-famous character Wage next to a little quote reading “working hard to make our dreams come true so we can be together again soon.” Lovesick and crafty, Sun-Min wasted no time sewing the first UGLYDOLL by hand and sending it back to America as a response note. Less than a year later, UGLYDOLL plush was being manufactured, quickly gaining notoriety across the art-toy world as well as a mainstream audience, becoming one of the more well-known and loved toy lines on the market. And that was only 2001.

By 2006, UGLYDOLL had achieved the Toy Industry Association’s yearly prize, the Specialty Toy of the Year.  The UGLYVERSE is rad, not only because it hypes on everything ugly and different, but also welcomes change and relates to real-Earth-situations. UGLYDOLL is extremely relatable and emotionally-bound to human society. Everyone ( including all my girlfriends in their mid-twenties) have a favorite Ugly. Hardly just a plush company (pun intended), UGLYDOLL product includes stationery, jewelry, apparel, books (my all-time fave being ‘WHAT DAT?’) and office accessories, like these adorably ugly flash drives.

Some OG  mimocult members may recall that mimoco produced another David Horvath designed Mimobot back in 2010. $5 coupon at mimoco.com for the first cult member who can name it in the comments.

For anyone who missed the original UGLYDOLL lovin in NYC, check out the videos below:

(BOSTON, MA—April 15, 2013) — Mimoco (www.mimoco.com), makers of the MIMOBOT® line of designer USB flash drives, once again partners with Pretty Ugly to announce a brand-new character in the UGLYDOLL x MIMOBOT line: Big Toe MIMOBOT, available in up to 128GB. The busybody character-inspired MIMOBOT USB flash drive comes preloaded with bonus Mimory™ and the MimoDesk™ personalization suite of wallpapers, icons, and avatars.

Jar Jar Binks MIMOBOT: No Foolin! http://blog.mimoco.com/jar-jar-binks-mimobot-no-foolin/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=jar-jar-binks-mimobot-no-foolin http://blog.mimoco.com/jar-jar-binks-mimobot-no-foolin/#comments Mon, 01 Apr 2013 03:59:41 +0000 mimoco http://blog.mimoco.com/?p=6255

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, a young Gungan began a journey in which he would single-handedly defeat an evil empire and steal the hearts of all who knew him…

His name was Jar Jar Binks.

Far too-little is known of this legendary hero of the galaxy.  In the Star Wars prequels George Lucas saw fit to waste all of our time telling us the tale of Anakin Skywalker and all the boring crap he did with his life.  Sure, we occasionally got to see Jar Jar, but when we did he was reduced to little-more than comic relief.  But at Mimoco refuse to let this brave warrior’s story go untold.

Born in Otoh Gunga, to father George Binks and his wife (whose name was lost to history), Jar Jar was often misunderstood.  He refused to settle for the life of a whaler as his father, his father’s father, his father’s father’s father, and his father’s father’s father’s father had before him.  He knew that he was destined for greatness and therefore wore the mask of a fool in the hopes that he would be given up on and left alone to do with his life as he pleased.  George Binks, however, refused to give up on his son and continued to take him on whaling expeditions.

On one such expedition George ordered his son to take the wheel.  Jar Jar saw this as his final chance to prove himself too imbecilic to follow in his father’s footsteps.  He spun the wheel out of control with ferocity and crashed into the whale.  After a month of being stranded on an island with his failure of a son George Binks could take no more and attempted suicide.  While his wife tried to stop him, Jar Jar seized the opportunity and swam back to Otoh Gunga.  He never saw or heard from them again.

As the years passed, Jar Jar continued to play the fool.  But even after this tiresome act got him exiled from his home his destiny was soon met. Bombad General Jar Jar lead his troops to victory at the Battle of Grassy plains, colonized the Naboo moon Ohma-D’un and acted as Amidala’s proxy until her death at which point he took her place in the Imperial Senate.

Some of you may remember last year’s April Fool’s Day joke that Mimoco pulled announcing the release of a Jar Jar Binks MIMOBOT.  We know that some (including one of our more gullible coworkers) may have fallen for this and had your dreams crushed when you realized it was a joke.  Allow us to make up for it this April 1st when we celebrate the memory of the greatest Gungan of all time with a Jar Jar Binks MIMOBOT (for real).  Meesa thinksa yousa fool if you don’t.

About Jar Jar Binks MIMOBOT® –  Yes, Mimoco turned the character with the worst memory in the Star Wars universe into a memory storage device! It’s in Jar Jar’s nature to blaze trails, just as he was the first of his kind to sit and serve on the Galactic senate, Binks, a member of the Gungan race – those amphibious humanoid-frog creatures, now joins esteemed Star Wars characters like Darth Vader, R2-D2, C-3PO, and a Stormtrooper in MIMOBOT collection as an ultra limited edition one year after Mimoco announced him as an April Fool’s joke.

The drive comes preloaded with exclusive Jar Jar Binks Mimory® content including the MimoDesk® personalization suite, which is comprised of Binks-themed wallpapers, icons and avatars. It also comes equipped with MimoByte® sound software, powered with an offering of iconic sounds and character dialogue that play each time a Jar Jar Binks MIMOBOT is inserted or ejected from one’s computer.

(BOSTON, MA—April, 1 2013) — Mimoco, creator of the MIMOBOT® line of designer USB flash drives, in collaboration with Lucasfilm, and to celebrate April Fool’s Day, announces the actual release of Jar Jar Binks MIMOBOT USB flash drives. After an upset about the prank release of the character last year, Mimoco has nodded to fans of Jar Jar by making the MIMOBOT an extremely limited reality; only 500 hand-numbered units are now available with up to 128GB of data storage.

mimoZine Visits Game of Thrones x Mondo Original Art Show at SXSWi http://blog.mimoco.com/game-of-thrones-x-mondo-original-art-show-at-sxswi/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=game-of-thrones-x-mondo-original-art-show-at-sxswi http://blog.mimoco.com/game-of-thrones-x-mondo-original-art-show-at-sxswi/#comments Tue, 26 Mar 2013 20:21:50 +0000 jessica http://blog.mimoco.com/?p=6213 HBO has done the medieval nerd subculture a solid with its uber-popular show Game of Thrones. Usually, mail-ware is exiled to the far corners of the ComicCon exhibition floor.  The season is ripe with progression, however, and harnesses and girdles would’ve been totally appropriate in Austin for SXSW during the Mondo Gallery Show, where a ton of awesome Game of Thrones tribute art was on display and a brand-new IPA was released to celebrate the shows’ season 3 premiere.

Fortunately for formerly closeted medieval fanatics and everyone else, mimoZine had just touched down in Austin and had a chance to stop by the show to let you know what went down. We were so amped on our newest Adventure Time partnership that we brought BMO to the party.

I spoke with the lovely Jessica Olsen-COO of Mondo Tees, who is not only a total babe with some serious fashion sense, but a real nice Gal with a great crew (ie. creative director Justin Ishmael and brother Sean). She is also featured in mimoZine’s first installment of 3 Questions in 2 Minutes below:

As you can see, we (maybe just me) were goofin’ off and I realized after the segment that I hadn’t asked her everything I should have. I blame the ‘Iron Throne’ Blonde Ale by Brewery Ommegang; but Jessica was cool enough to fill in the blanks below.

:What is the smallest run of posters you have made?

JO: We do our best to continue to expand the edition size of our posters to grow with our fanbase while keeping the limited and collectible nature of the prints. It’s easy to tell you the largest run of posters we’ve made – last summer’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES by Olly Moss. It was our first “timed edition” which means it was on sale for a specified amount of time (24 hours) and the poster sales dictated the edition size (which was 9,350 in this case).

Mϟ:What was the first poster people started asking to purchase at the Alamo?

JO: I came on in 2010, and fans were collecting Mondo posters well before that. Tyler Stout’s THE THING comes to mind as one of earlier posters that still gets people excited. And the STAR WARS series in 2010 is what put us on the map in terms of expanding our fan base.

Mϟ:Where did the GoT beer collaboration come from?

JO: Mondo wasn’t involved in that collaboration, we just wanted to help promote the fact that the beer was created. Ommegang is an excellent brewery in upstate NY that specializes in Belgium-style ales. I love that the take on the beer and the packaging was so dignified and thoughtful. The quote from the Ommegang brewmaster was ”With a Lannister currently on the throne, it made sense to do a delicate, but piercing Golden Blonde Ale with Noble hops. Iron Throne is certainly fair in color and soft in appearance, yet it still possesses a complexity and bite to be on guard for.” Love that.

Mϟ:What was your favorite piece from the show? Why?

JO: That’s a really difficult choice, but the two that come to mind are ”Samwell” by Esao Andrews and “The Hound” by Warwick Johnson Cadwell.

Mϟ: You said your favorite character on GoT was Samwell; but why? You are, like, a total babe, and Samuel is a self-proclaimed “useless coward” and he’s not great on the battlefield.

JO: Ha, it’s funny I’ve given it some thought since you asked that, and I probably would have said Arya Stark if given more time to think about it.  I think Samwell was on the brain because I liked Esao’s piece from the show so much. I do like Samwell a lot. He’s gentle and has a soft heart which gets him in to trouble but he’s smart and I don’t think he’s a coward. I guess I’d just like to take care of him and tell him everything is going to be okay.

Mϟ: I know you said you were friends with Greg Rivera and L’amour Supreme – do you see your brand getting involved with street wear or vinyl toys/action figures? Your tees (which were the product you started Mondo with) would already look great on the racks at MISHKA.

JO: Justin Ishmael (one of our Creative Directors) is a big toy collector and he and Greg collect similar stuff. We’ve definitely discussed toys but there’s other things we are more focused on right now – like our vinyl soundtrack arm (we just released DRIVE, and have another release in April.) But yeah we love Mishka. It would be cool to collaborate at some point.

Mϟ: How do you use social media to grow your brand?

JO: I have a background in social media marketing, but the companies I worked with before had no idea how to use the tools because they weren’t using them themselves in their personal life. I think it becomes a whole lot easier to use something like Twitter or Facebook or a blog or Instagram if you essentially grew up using similar tools. You eliminate the need for a “Social Media Strategy” and just use the platforms the same way you would email or a telephone. We have just over 40k followers on Twitter, but we’ve never had a meeting to say “how can we increase our following on Twitter?” If you do stuff that people are interested in, people start following you so they can keep up with new stuff you have going on.

Mϟ:Last year at SDCC you produced some Adventure Time product – do you have any future plans for partnering with Cartoon Network again? PS: We should totally hang out in San Diego this summer.

JO: For sure let’s hang out! And yes, we still have the Adventure Time license, and are huge fans of the show. We’re not nearly done exploring what we can do creatively with that license.

Mϟ: Which poster is hanging above your bed? Or in your bedroom in general?

JO: Oh boy. Can I tell you which posters are in stack in my office ready to be framed? the 2010 Rolling Roadshow series by Olly Moss, Jaws by Laurent Durieux, and Kill Bill by Tyler Stout. I don’t have any Mondo posters in my bedroom, because as much as I love my job, it seems like bad feng shui to have work stuff where I’m trying to sleep. In my bedroom I have original art from Jay Howell, Jonny Negron, Laurent Durieux, Scott Campbell and the original cover art from a Sweet Valley High book by James L. Mathewuse [EDITOR'S NOTE: I want to see that cover art!].

Thanks again to Jessica, Justin, Mo, the rest of the crew at Mondo, HBO and Game of Thrones for having us and keeping design alive on planet Earth, specifically Texas! If you are going to Wondercon this weekend, make sure to visit Mondo at booth 576. Then, watch the Game of Thrones Season 3 premiere on Sunday. Can you say nerd-date weekend?

Refresh your memory: Chainmail-ware is now socially acceptable.

Riddle me this, and riddle me that…now with MIMOBOT derby hat! http://blog.mimoco.com/riddle-me-this-and-riddle-me-thatnow-with-mimobot-derby-hat/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=riddle-me-this-and-riddle-me-thatnow-with-mimobot-derby-hat http://blog.mimoco.com/riddle-me-this-and-riddle-me-thatnow-with-mimobot-derby-hat/#comments Fri, 22 Mar 2013 13:30:15 +0000 mimoco http://blog.mimoco.com/?p=6074

Which MIMOBOT has been played by Jim Carrey, has been referred to as a cheap knock off of the Joker and has his very own Method Man song?

Do you give up?

Take your time.

No rush really I’ve got all day.

THAT’S RIGHT!!! The Riddler!

But you know what? It’s not really fair to call him a Joker knock off. Riddles aren’t jokes. They’re…well… riddles. While the Joker finds joy in chaos, destruction and just pissing off Batman in general, The Riddler isn’t in it for any of that. He just wants to show off how much smarter he is.

That’s right folks. Back in 1948, the kid who raised his hand first—highest and hardest—every time the teacher asked a question, donned a green suit covered in question marks. He has spent every waking moment since then thumbing his nose at everybody in Gotham who can’t name all the Greek philosophers in order of birth date.

But that’s not all there is to him it seems. For somebody who’s so smart, he gets caught fairly easily. Not only that, but at one point he saw fit to give up his life of crime and become a private eye assisting the likes of the Gotham City Sirens, Commissioner Gordon, and yes, even the world’s greatest detective Batman. However all of that is short-lived and Edward Nygma soon returned to crime with the aid of his daughter, Enigma, which lead most readers to say, “Her name is Enigma Nygma? REALLY?!”

In the New 52, The Riddler has been rebooted and re-stylized and now rocks a green mohawk in the shape of a question mark. But we here at Mimoco love the classics so our Limited Edition The Riddler X MIMOBOT is just that—classic.

Riddler X MIMOBOT: Based on a classic styling of the elusive querying madman, question marks adorn his questionably classy three-piece suit. Joining a slew of super heroes and fellow villains which include classic and collectible characters like Superman, Batman (DKR Edition), and The Flash (Drive), all deceivingly small DC Comics x MIMOBOT styles are now available in a spacious 128GB of data storage, and are offered in both USB2.0 and USB3.0 formats. Riddler X MIMOBOT, as all others in the collection, comes preloaded with exclusive Mimory® content and our MimoDesk® personalization suite, which includes Riddler-themed wallpapers, icons, and avatars.

mimoZine on the scene: “Spring Breakers” US Premiere at SXSW 2013 http://blog.mimoco.com/mimozine-on-the-scene-spring-breakers-us-premiere-at-sxsw-2013/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=mimozine-on-the-scene-spring-breakers-us-premiere-at-sxsw-2013 http://blog.mimoco.com/mimozine-on-the-scene-spring-breakers-us-premiere-at-sxsw-2013/#comments Wed, 13 Mar 2013 13:50:44 +0000 scott http://blog.mimoco.com/?p=6117

Ah, springtime, the season of blooming and growth.

Selena Gomez, Disney star of the infinitely popular (at least in my house) Disney show Wizards on Waverly Place, is apparently feeling the affects of Spring. As evidenced by her new film that had it’s US premiere Sunday night in Austin: “Spring Breakers”

Just like many other institutions in our pop culture, SG is going through a period of change from her soft-tweens to hard-twenties in one short step- “Spring Breakers”

The movie byline reads, “Four college girls who land in jail after robbing a restaurant in order to fund their spring break vacation find themselves bailed out by a drug and arms dealer who wants them to do some dirty work.”

And from the 1st trailer, it’s clear that this pretty Wizard was way off the safe streets of Waverly place.

She’s beautiful, okay sure. A naturally legit double-threat fine, but it’s her emergence as “Patient Zero” to Bieber fever that sets her apart. The fever wore off, or her blood found the antidote, or her emotional immune system is stronger then the average person…whatever it is, it’s impressive.

What happens now/next is the big question so mimoZine set out on the 2nd night of South by Southwest to the Spring Breakers red carpet to see for ourselves.

Not only the 1st US screening with it’s own innate question ‘how would this extreme American reflection play to an American audience?’, but this marked Selena’s Texas coming out party…which we later found out added, I imagine, another level of butterflies to the Dallas native.

Overall, I was impressed by her demeanor on-screen & off. She was vulnerable, a little short-spoken but present throughout. Like someone walking in a new place and does not yet have the feel for the new terrain but is getting it. It seems that she wants to change her own narrative and do it in a bold way, and that if nothing else has our rooting interest.

I actually think she was under-utilized in the movie but she seemed game throughout which helped display some new colors for her and for because of that the overall production benefited. Next stop…we’ll see. Go-GoMezGo.

Stay Tune for more clips of James Franco who is the revelation of the entire movie with the creation of his character “Alien”. Stay tuned for that and more clips from SX’, but for now we got a big night ahead of us!

Refresh your memory
You Enjoy South by Southwest

Rainbow BMO Release at SXSWi http://blog.mimoco.com/rainbow-bmo-release-at-sxswi/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rainbow-bmo-release-at-sxswi http://blog.mimoco.com/rainbow-bmo-release-at-sxswi/#comments Mon, 11 Mar 2013 03:59:49 +0000 mimoco http://blog.mimoco.com/?p=6086
When you were a kid did you have a Game Boy?  Was it your best friend?  Did it skateboard, make you toast and have a VCR in it’s butt?  No?  Bummer. You heard we were releasing a BMO MIMOBOT at SXSW? Phew.

There is evidence to suggest that BMO is a relic from the past, before the Ice King became the Ice King and brought an end to the world as we knew it and brought us the land of present–Ooo.  But there’s even more evidence to suggest that he’s the best lumping memory-saving sidekick EVER! That evidence comes straight from the labs at Mimoco, Inc., where we are kind of obsessed with Adventure Time, and have just released a LTD.ED. BMO Rainbow MIMOBOT for the SXSW Interactive show.

We first released a line of MIMOBOT Flash Drives inspired by Pendleton Ward’s crazy amazing world last summer for San Diego Comic-Con. It was kind of a huge deal, and we ended up selling out of our LTD.ED. Fionna MIMOBOT at the show. After that insanity, we really had no choice but to constantly watch, recant and praise the show in its entirety. I just count it as ‘work,’ and I have been putting in a TON of overtime.

Normally when you leave toys at home they either laze around, doing nothing, or engage in seriously drawn-out conversations over which one of them is your favorite. When BMO is left alone, however, his imagination runs wild and that’s when the real fun begins. In honor of the little console being turned MIMOBOT, we have compiled a very short list of Mimoco’s Top BMOments: our favorite BMO memories in the Land of Ooo.

-In the episode “Five Short Graybles” we learn that BMO has made friends with Football, a robot on the other side of the mirror that he trains to be a real living boy, and that he is afraid to let Football know that he himself is a robot.

-In “BMO Noire” (my personal favorite) we see BMO in a new light, a heartbroken street hardened detective hell-bent on finding Finn’s sock and returning peace and order to the tree house.

-BMO composes and performs a heart-melting original music video in the name of friendship in Video Makers.

-BMO is shown in dirty soccer cleats and a jersey in “In Your Footsteps.”

-Most recently in issues 11 and 12 of the Adventure Time comic book BMO has become the victim of a virus that’s given him a bad attitude, a case of amnesia, and made his video games far too easy to beat. It’s a good reminder that Ward’s Land of Ooo is not all Bubblegum and Rainicorns.

Good news is: If you want a BMO that will safeguard your data like he does for Finn & Jake in Ooo, or you want to add BMO to your Adventure Time MIMOBOT collection, click here or come by Booth #422 at SXSWi in Austin, Texas.

About BMO Rainbow MIMOBOT®: BMO isn’t just a living video game console, portable electrical outlet, music player, roommate, camera, alarm clock, toaster, flashlight, strobe light, skateboarder, friend, soccer player, video editor, and video player anymore, silly! Mimoco has added flash drive to its long resume, which gives BMO even more reason to command us to “Bow to your sensei” of memory transport. Lift off its cap to reveal a special rainbow sleep display and rest easy knowing that if anyone tries to hurt your data, BMO will kill them. “Check, please!”

BMO Rainbow MIMOBOT, as all others in the collection, comes preloaded with an exclusive desktop interface featuring Mimory™ content like a full Adventure Time episode and our MimoDesk™ personalization suite, which includes BMO-themed wallpapers, icons and avatars. BMO Rainbow MIMBOT is limited to 2,000 hand-numbered units.
(AUSTIN, TEXAS – MARCH 11th, 2013) — Mimoco, creator of the MIMOBOT® line of character-based designer USB flash drives and Cartoon Network Enterprises, the licensing and merchandising arm of the television network, are proud to announce BMO Rainbow MIMOBOT, the newest Adventure Time character to be transformed into MIMOBOT USB flash drive form and function. The extremely limited-edition collaboration is the second installment of the Adventure Time X MIMOBOT® Series originally released at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
